(1) During 2008-09, broad money stock (M3) (up to January 16, 2009) increased by 12.7 per cent as compared to 14.7 per cent during the corresponding period of the last year. Similarly, Net foreign exchange assets (NFA) of banking sector (up to January 16, 2009) have decreased by (-) 3.9 per cent as compared to an increase of 25.6 per cent in the same period last year.

(2) During 2008-09 (up to January 16, 2009), gross bank credit increased by 12.0 per cent compared to an increase of 12.1 per cent during the corresponding period of last year. Similarly, non-food credit (up to January 16, 2009) increased by 12.0 per cent compared to an increase of 12.8 per cent during the corresponding period of last year.
