Bihar is located in the eastern part of the country, occupying the total land area of 94,163 sq km. It is situated between 21 degree 58'10" to 27 degree 31'15" North Latitudes and 82 degree 19'50" to 88 degree 17'40" East Longitudes. It is bounded on the north by Nepal, on the east by West Bengal, on west by Uttar Pradesh and on the south by Jharkhand. It has a number of rivers, the most important of which is the Ganga. The other rivers are the Sone, Poonpoon, Falgu, Karmanasa, Durgawati, Kosi, Gandak, Ghaghara, etc. Since it lies in the tropical to sub tropical region, rainfall here is the most significant factor in determining the nature of vegetation. The topography of Bihar can be easily described as a fertile alluvial plain occupying the Gangetic valley. The plain extends from the foothills of the Himalayas in the north to a few miles south of the river Ganges. Rich farmland and lush orchards extend throughout the State.

Bihar has always been a land of attractive economic opportunities. It is endowed with an enviable mineral resources base, including steatite, pyrites, quartzite, crude mica, limestone, etc. Its bountiful agro climatic resources and the gains of the Green Revolution have enabled the State to become a leading producer of agriculture commodities, like rice, wheat, sugarcane, gram , jute, etc. It is also one of the largest producers of fruit and vegetables in the country. In addition, there are large vital industrial units in the State in the sectors of textiles, leather, information technology, engineering goods and tourism. Bihar has been home to a large number of industrial houses, both from India and abroad. As a result, Bihar has embarked upon a path to become a vibrant and globally competitive industrial economy.

The advantageous features of the State are:-

  • Responsive administrative set up
  • Skilled and hardworking labour force
  • Diversified agricultural and industrial base
  • Excellent infrastructure network
  • Investor friendly environment
  • Vast and rapidly expanding consumer markets etc.

In order to translate all such natural advantages to rapid economic growth and prosperity, the State Government welcomes entrepreneurs from all over the world to be partners in progress. It strives to provide them with quality infrastructure and business friendly environment for smooth operation of their investment proposals and projects.
