Union Territory (UT) of Dadra and Nagar
Haveli, with a total land area of 491 sq km, is located on the western
side of the foothills of Western Ghats. It is situated between 20 degree
to 20 degree 25' North Latitude and 72 degree 50' to 73 degree 15' East
Longitude. It consists of two pockets, namely, Dadra and Nagar Haveli,
separated by Vapi (Gujarat). It is surrounded by States of Gujarat and
Maharashtra, which have a very healthy social, economical and industrial
environment. In other words, it is located at almost equal distance from
Mumbai (Maharashtra) and Surat (Gujarat).
The land under forest cover (20,359 hectares) in the territory
constitutes about 40 percent of the geographical area. Mainly, the geographical
stretch of UT is hilly terrain.The central region of the land is almost
plain, endowed with fertile soil. The UT is richly endowed with beautiful
landscapes and large bio-diversity of flora and fauna. It is a land of
spell-binding beauty with lush green forests, winding rivers, unimaginable
waterfronts and distant dotting mountain ranges. Besides, there are plenty
of places of tourist interest, with large number of hotels, holiday resorts
and other accomodations. As a result, the UT is fast developing as a major
weekend gateway for city dwellers and thus, attracting huge number of
tourists the world over.
Due to its locational advantage, a good number of industrial
units have been established in the territory, mainly in the fields of
textiles, papers, plastics, engineering products, chemicals, dyeing stuff,
etc. Such industries generate gainful employment opportunities for the
people of UT. Also, since the territory comes under South Gujarat heavy
agro-climatic zone, a wide variety of agricultural crops are being grown.
In addition, Dadra and Nagar Haveli has a very good network of electricity
as well as a sound and efficient transportation and communication system.
Given these opportunities, the Government of Dadra and Nagar
Haveli has been undertaking several policy measures and incentives for
investors the world over. As a result, the Union territory has attracted
a large inflow of capital into the various sectors of its economy.
