The State has good infrastructure facilities with
favourable power situation, upgraded road network and improved telecommunications
network. With one of the lowest power tariffs in the country, the state
has developed a fairly good industrial infrastructure . Regarding industrial
infrastructure, there are 5 existing
industrial
estates/ areas. Further, a
Growth
Center Project is under implementation and also, the work of setting
up of an Export Promotion Industrial Park (EPIP), a Food Park and a Rubber
Park has also been taken up. It is in the process of setting up an IT
Park at Agartala.
Roadways
The total length of roads in the State is 15,551 km, of
which major district roads constitute 90 km; other district roads are1274
km; and State Highways are 545 kms.
Railways
The total length of railway lines within the State is 66
km. Manu-Agartala Railway line (Length-88 km) has been declared as National
Project.
Aviation
The main airport is at Agartala, which is connected with
Kolkata and Guwahati. There are airports at Kailashahar, Kamalpur and
Khowai, though they are not functioning at present.
Power
The present highest peak demand of power in the State is
around 162 MW. In order to meet this demand, around 70 MW is available
from the State's own generating stations, while about 50 MW is being imported
from the State's allocated share from the Central Sector power generating
stations in the NE-Region.
It is estimated that the peak demand during 2012 will
be 396 MW considering the demand arising out of Rajiv Gandhi Gramin Vidyutikaran
Yojana (RGGVY) and industrialisation in the State. Another 1x21 MW G.T.
set at Rokhia, West Tripura was installed on 31 March 2006. The ONGCL
Power Project, in which Tripura's share is 100 MW, is likely to be commissioned
by 2008-09.
