Union Territory of Daman and Diu is becoming a preferred
destination for investors the world over. It is fast developing into a
modern and beautiful belt for industry and tourism sectors. It is endowed
with peaceful and harmonious labour climate; adequate infrastructure facilities
as well as varied agricultural production. Daman and Diu offers numerous
incentives and schemes so as to motivate entrepreneurs and industrialists
to set up their base here. Fine weather conditions, good hotels and beach
resorts provide excellent adventure and leisure activities. Omnibus Industrial
Development Corporation (OIDC) of Daman and Diu is the main authority
to assist and promote the economic development of UT in various areas
covering industries, tourism, agro-industries and related activities.
Agriculture
Important field and garden crops in Daman and Diu are paddy,
ragi, bajra, jowar, groundnut, pulses, beans, wheat, banana, sapota, mango,
sapota, coconut and sugarcane. Total area under irrigation is 123 hectares
and un-irrigated area is 1788 hectares (as per Agricultural Census 1995-96).
There are no major forests in the Union Territory.
Industry
There are 1827 small-scale and medium-scale industries in
Daman and Diu. Two industrial areas have been developed by Omnibus Industrial
Development Corporation at Daman. The other industrial areas are Dabhel,
Bhimpore, Kachigam and Kadaiya.
Tourism
The Union Territory of Daman and Diu has been declared
as a special tourism destination due to its strategic location and scenic
beauty. It is endowed with beautiful beaches, churches, forts and rich
cultural heritage. Important tourist places in Daman are:- Bom Jesus Chruch,
Our Lady of Sea Church; Our Lady of Remedios Church; Fort of Moti Daman;
Fort of Nani Daman; Jampore Beach; Devka Beach; Public Garden at Nani
Daman and Moti Daman Jetty, Pargola Garden, Moti Daman; Amusement Park,
Devka; Damanganga Tourist Complex, Kachigam; Satya Sagar Udyan, Mirasol
Garden; Mirasal Water Park; etc. While, famous places of tourist interest
in Diu are:- St. Paul's Church; St. Francis of Assisi; St. Thomas - Museum;
Diu Fort and Panikota Fort; Gangeshwar Temple; Nagoa Beach; Ghoghla Beach;
Jallandhar Beach; etc.
