Puducherry is fast becoming a preferred destination for

Marine product processing is an important component of agro-processing

scope in shrimp culture and crab farming. The modern fishing harbours
are at Thengaithittu, Puducherry and Karukalacheri, Karaikal.
Textiles
Textiles are the traditional industries of Puducherry. Availability
of specialized skilled manpower in the territory is an advantage for the
growth of the textile industry. The fabric produced is of the highest
quality, which have a huge demand in the overseas market. Textiles, thus,
are one of the most important export from Puducherry.
Leather
The leather industry is one of the fastest growing industries
in the UT. It has considerable employment potential and is an export-oriented
industry. In Puducherry, skilled craftsmen are manufacturing world class
leather products. As a result, leather is the largest item of exports
from Puducherry. The UT Government has been making considerable efforts
for expanding the indigenous base of leather industry as well as promoting
leather products of UT in foreign markets.
Information Technology
Information Technology (IT) industry is a knowledge based
sunrise industry in the Puducherry, which holds a key to rapid progress
in the coming years. A large pool of IT professionals and the state-of-the-art
communication facilities are available in Puducherry. IT sector provides
ample employment opportunities in the territory and helps to improve the
quality of life of the citizens, by providing them easy access to required
information. Accordingly, the Government of Puducherry has formulated
an IT Policy, which aimed at accelerating the growth of IT industries
in terms of hardware, software, services, training, etc.
Tourism
Being one of the most popular tourist destinations in India,
Puducherry offers variety of incentives for investors in tourism infrastructure.
Investment opportunities exists in developing star and heritage hotels;
amusement parks; multiplexes; food courts; beach resorts; eco-tourism;
health spas; art and craft village; and other tourism relates products.
